Where have all the pirates gone

I've been drifting about the waters of Massachusetts and Rhode Island off and on for about twenty years. I've sailed sailboats, paddled kayaks and canoes and even noisily stunk about in the ocasional power boat (pardon the biassed wording...or don't, whatever).
Throughout my travels I've run into (figuratively for the most part) plenty of mariners. I have not found many with my outlook on boating (probably this is for the best). This I hope to change. I encourage anyone with an over developped sense of adventure and under developed sense of responsibility to post comments and links here. It would be nice to plan some sort of event or just exchange ideas about such things as:
out of the way anchorages where a vagabond such as myself could drop hook on a weekend without running into pain in the bum harbour masters and the like wanting to check fire extinguishers on sailboats or some other such inconvenience.
launch areas with neither lines and parking problems nor fees
mischevious plans and/or ideas
reports of mischief and harmless high spirits

I just want to see if there are any other ragged sailors out there or if I am really alone!

It's hard to believe there have been 53 hits to this site (more than 3 of them not from me!) and the only comment is from me. The rest of the world really needs to learn to drink more.

ZOMBI!
Got a FREE 12'6" RIGID INFLATABLE ZODIAC yesterday, just by walking around the marina & asking if it was trash or for sale. Minimal patching of the Hypalon needed. The stainless & rope is worth quite a bit alone. These will pull water skiiers! Threw it on the roof again of the kid's dented car roof, & we're off. Pays to walk around marinas & ASK. Rich Canadians will toss away anything not stylish It seems. Just issues with no-title for us stateside here is a hassle to bogey register, especially for Fed. waters, but what the hell. Hypalon is good for patching another, or whatever if nothing else. Employees of mine think it's below them to be penny-pinching thrify, as they drop their change on the floor for the janitor, saying you can't buy anything with it, in disgust, anyway. They ignore the power of leverage & cash multiplier deals that come along that hold such great value. Different strokes for different folks...

Zombi, previewing &/or posting took a half dozen attempts. Don't know why... It just recycled the screen without function until I hit homepage & refreshed to try again. Who knows...

Wasting Away In Margaritaville '77 Jimmy Buffett

Nibblin on sponge cake
Watchin the sun bake
All of those tourists covered with oil
Strummin my six-string
On my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp theyre beginnin to boil

Chorus:
Wastin away again in margaritaville
Searching for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that theres a woman to blame
But I know its nobodys fault

I dont know the reason
I stayed here all season
Nothin to show but this brand new tattoo
But its a real beauty
A mexican cutie
How it got here I havent a clue

Chorus:
Wastin away again in margaritaville
Searchin for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that theres a woman to blame
Now I think
Hell, it could be my fault

I blew out my flip-flop
Stepped on a pop-top
Cut my heel had to cruise on back home
But theres booze in the blender
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on

Wastin away again in margaritaville
Searching for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that theres a woman to blame
But I know its my own damn fault
Yes and some people claim that theres a woman to blame
And I know its my own damn fault"

Zombi -Good Deal:
A former retired engineer at Boeing McDonnell Douglas is selling some Hypalon (top thickest 47 oz material) by the linear foot piece. Roll is 53" wide. You get 12"x53" for $20 bucks & cheap shipping, so I bought five of those ONLINE ON AUCTION---after seeing the TINY Marina can with 12 tiny 4"x4" patches+glue for ridiculous $85 to $100 dollars. My 4 foot by 4 1/2 foot of material for $225 with shipping was a much better deal than 12"x12" Marina priced, & 47 oz thicker too. Also found the better (3M 5200 adhesive sealant) 10oz cheaper. Those marinas will rob ya blind! Now that my Son has made me buy him a new Honda, gotta look hard for thrift & bargains. This FREEBIE Avon rigid RIB 10' footer needs only two tiny patches (it pulled from seams a bit). The ((NEW FROM AVON 47 OUNCE PER SQUARE FOOT)) material is of such high quality, only the best glue should be used. One of my favorites is 3M 5200. It is a moisture cured polyurethane that is tough beyond belief. Once stuck, its stuck!!! The only drawback is 4 to 5 days till cured. I use duct tape to hold things in place til cured. Also, no matter what kind of glue is used, make sure the material is scrupulously cleaned and degreased with a good clean VIRGIN solvent like ((toluene/xylene)), or 3M sold brand cleaner, not previously used solvent either, using clean cotton material. And the surface is roughed up a bit with some 80 grit sandpaper and solvent again. The best glue job can be ruined by sloppy prep work. Your prep work is everything! I use 4 inch overlaps minimum. 3M 5200 is very forgiving of operator error. It cleans up nicely with mineral spirits. Sticky as hell. It comes in caulking tubes and makes for easy application. I used two cases of the stuff in one month! Sticks to any damn thing except polycarbonate(Lexan, etc..). This Hypalon is a Thermoset, unlike the cheaper PVC made inflatables that are Thermoplastics hot weld-glued. Hypalon can be hot-weld-glued, but only when new. This material is made by the AVON factory in Southhampton, England, left over from gov't contract. Have fun...
